A week before Christmas, my dad’s side of the family got together for dinner at a library in Birmingham. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do a maternity portrait session with my cousin, Shakilya. I hadn’t seen Shay in AGES! We typically get a chance to catch up during the occasional family reunion or on Facebook. But, other than that, we don’t get a chance to interact much. When Shay stepped out of the car, I witnessed how well pregnancy is treating her. She wears her baby bump with pride! I found myself whispering to myself throughout the day, “Aww…my little cousin is so beautiful!”

When I initially arrived at the location, I quickly took about 10-15 minutes to scout potential areas outside of the library for our photo shoot. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to find much. To my surprise, there were lots of cute details, like a stone table, distressed door, fence, and greenery. Score!

It was so much fun shooting Shay’s session! We laughed and joked a lot and discovered that we both have an appreciation for America’s Next Top Model. Shay was totally “smizing” throughout the shoot. Tyra would be so proud!

Towards the end of our session, the sun was going down, and it cast a beautiful light that just accentuated the glow that many mommies-to-be have. Shay looks so peaceful and hopeful about the future.

In true Top Model fashion, Shay had some of her own ideas for poses, like the first shot below that turned out to be one of my favorites. I love how artistic it looks!

We continued to explore a few more locations before wrapping up.

Shay, congratulations on your impending new arrival. You are such a beautiful mommy-to-be! I can’t wait to meet your little girl!

Great shots Kim she is positively glowing! Great captures!
