On Saturday, it is going to be 106 degrees in Atlanta. Yikes! You know what that means? It is definitely the summer…and school is no longer in session. But, before school got out, I had the chance to travel to a local high school to photograph some of the dance students. Andre, Jasmine, Katie, and Lydia showed me how to navigate the school hallways so that we could go outside to take a few photos. Sometimes, I just like photograping real life. Unstyled. No hair and makeup crew. No special wardrobe. Just folks showing their individual style…and in this case…individual dance style. Dare I say, though, that I 100% approve of their sneaker choices? Converse and Toms…you can’t go wrong with that!
During our mini session, we took both group and individual shots. Let’s start with some introductions. First, meet Katie (class of 2013). I loved the confidence she exuded.

Next up is Jasmine…so cute!

Then, there’s Lydia…full of grace.

Finally, meet Andre…ready to strike a model or dance pose on demand.

At 3:30 PM in the afternoon, it was a little challenging to find areas in which to shoot. Eventually we were able to find some shady areas in the courtyard and on the track, away from the other athletes.

It was great watching them set up and execute their individual and group poses and have fun while doing it! It never ceases to amaze me the skills one can develop with a little practice and determination. Okay…maybe a lot of practice and determination!

Thanks, guys, for letting me hang out with you. Good luck with senior year, Lydia and Katie! And congratulations on graduating, Andre and Jasmine! I wish you much success!

Great job Kimberly Murray! I especially love those B&W ones!
Thanks, Saadia! I woman after my own heart. I love B&W images!
Great work!
These portraits are amazing Kim! Lovely capture of them individually and as a group!
Thanks, Simi! I wanted to make sure to highlight each student and also show how their talents mesh.
Thanks! I’m glad you like how they came out!
These are great! The B&W triptych in the middle is really nice, as are all of the shots. Excellent work. I’m sure we’ll see some of these in young dancers on SYTYCD one of these days, so hold on to these pictures.
Thanks! That series (B&W) is one of my favorites. These dancers certainly have the talent to go far!
I LOVE THESE!!! If you ever want to give me a fabulous gift, I will take a print of one of these pictures (my birthday is in February, by the way). Seriously, Kimberly – these are just amazing!
Thanks, Isa! February, you say? I’ll keep that in mind.
