The bedroom. The bathroom. “Where the everyday begins and ends.” That’s the theme for IKEA’s latest catalog. Last month, IKEA‘s Atlanta location invited local bloggers to attend an #IKEAcataLOVE celebration to unveil the 2015 catalog and participate in a tour of the store. The celebration culminates with a $100 gift card giveaway for our wonderful readers! Be sure to enter the giveaway below before August 31, 2014. During the tour, I learned about several of IKEA’s departments, including the mattress collection. I thought the slatted bed base, unique to IKEA, was too cool!
As a portrait and lifestyle photographer, I took a look through the catalog with my passions in mind. I love photographing the ‘tween (ages 8-12) market and think IKEA did a wonderful job with its children’s textile collection. While some kids love bright, fun colors, others are a bit edgier. I absolutely love the footprints and other design elements used in the SNABBFOTAD rug and PIMPLA duvet cover that give a nod towards urban street life (see images below on the left). I would love to do an in-home lifestyle session in a ‘tween room like this and then take my client outdoors to a skate park or perhaps Little Five Points to tie in related outdoor elements.
Even though the catalog highlights the bedroom and bathroom, IKEA recognizes that life doesn’t start in the morning, stop, and then magically begin again at night. Life really happens in those moments that occur in the middle of the day. As I was flipping through the catalog, I was immediately drawn to the DRIFTIG dinnerware collection (above right). I love the colors and patterns and can see them both on my table as well as props for a beautifully styled still life photo. (At $3.49-$3.99 a piece, you can stock up!) I could even see using the small plate to hold my camera memory cards or paper clips on my desk.
Have you taken a look through the 2015 catalog? What are your favorite items? How will you use your $100 gift card if you are the lucky winner? Enter below. Good luck! The winner will be contacted via Twitter on or before September 2, 2014.
